  • Trumball Kent of Oswego, New York, becomes the first settler in Schaumburg.
1847
  • St. Peter's Lutheran Church is founded.
1848
  • First post office is opened in Schaumburg.
1850
  • Name of the community changes from Sarah's Grove to Schaumburg, in honor of Schaumburg-Lippe, Germany.
1851
  • St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church is constructed.
1873
  • The first cheese factory is opened.
1886
  • Schaumburg Center consists of a school, two stores, a church, a wagon shop, a blacksmith shop, and twelve residences.
1890
  • The fire company is organized.
1908
1920
  • Higgins Road and Roselle Roads become the first paved roads in the community.
1928
  • Golf Road is paved.
1954
  • Northwest Tollway (I-90) is proposed.
1956
  • The Village of Schaumburg becomes incorporated on March 7, 1956.  It consists of two square miles and has a population of 130.  
  • Louis Redeker is elected the first village president.
1959
  • Robert O. Atcher is elected village president.
1959
  • Alfred Campanelli begins construction of Weathersfield, Unit 1, the first residential subdivision in the community.
1960
  • The Village consists of eight and a half square miles and has a population of 800.
1960
  • Martin Conroy becomes the first Village employee.
1961
  • The Schaumburg's Women's Club is incorporated.
1964
  • Schaumburg Airport is annexed.
1965
  • The Schaumburg Boy's Baseball League begins to play.
1966
  • The Schaumburg Jaycees is founded.
1967
  • Motorola constructs corporate headquarters in Schaumburg.
1968
  • International Village becomes the first multiple family residential development in Schaumburg.
1970
  • The population of the Village of Schaumburg is 18,730.
1970
  • Schaumburg High School opens.
1971
  • Schaumburg holds its first annual Septemberfest celebration.
1974
  • Schaumburg Municipal Center is completed.
1975
  • Raymond R. Kessell is elected Village President.
1975
  • John Coste becomes the first Village Manager.
1976
  • Schaumburg celebrates its 20th anniversary and has a population of 43,580.
1977
  • Olde Schaumburg Center Historic District is created for the area contiguous to the intersection of Schaumburg Road and Roselle Road.
1979
  • Herbert J. Aigner is elected Village President.
1980
  • The Village consists of 18.3 square miles in area and has a population of 53,305.  
  • A comprehensive bikeways program is begun.
1981
  • Schaumburg Park District Recreation Center opens.
1982
  • Commuter railroad station opens.
1983
  • Construction begins on the Schaumburg senior citizen housing project.
1984
  • The Village begins broadcasting on Cablenet Channel 63.
1985
  • The Northwest Tollway Interchange at Roselle Road opens.
1986
  • Schaumburg Prairie Center for the Arts is completed.
