1830's
  • The first farmers came from Germany and England to farm in the area. They raised sheep, cows, wheat, oats and corn.
1870
  • The Chicago and Pacific railroad was formed.
1874
  • Edwin Bartlett donated land on which a railroad depot was built.
  • Luther Bartlett also donated land for a railroad depot. 
  • There were then two Bartlett depots.  Each had its own Post Office.The eastern depot was renamed Ontario to avoid confusion.  An old legend stated that the depot was on an Indian trail going from Lake Ontario to Green Bay, so the name Ontarioville was born.
  • Edwin Barlett was the first Postmaster.  He also started a grain elevator.
1910
  • Ontarioville's school district held classes in Arthur Schlueter's gas garage.
1926
  • The Illinois Pet Cemetery begins.
1928
  • Ontarioville's first school was built on the northwest corner of Elm and Center Streets.
1950's
  • Construction of the Illinois tollroad and O'Hare Airport enabled people to travel easily. Large suburban housing developments were begun.
1956
  • Ontarioville's population was 450 people.
1958
  • The name of Ontarioville was changed to Hanover by Emil Rinne.  
  • The community incorporated so it could not be annexed by neighboring communities.  
  • The population was 305 people.
1961
  • The Hanover Park water tower was built.
1989
  • The population of Hanover Park was 31,349 people.
