One Day (approximately 45 minutes)                                   

Objective: Relate knowledge of Illinois and Chicago
Outcome: Discussion (small group, share with class)

Activities:

1. Create a KWHL chart.

   What do you already know about Illinois?

   What would you like to learn about Illinois?

   How are you going to learn it?

   What did you learn?

Direct students to make an Illinois Double Entry Journal.

1. Define the parts of a double entry journal:

   Number pages begin with Table of Contents (first page in spiral notebook, then turn page and start numbering 1,2,3 etc.

Illinois Double Entry Journal Promptpage 1:

Direct students to write in their their double entry journal page 1 "What do you know about Illinois?" then "What do you want to know about Illinois?" (reserve page 2 for lesson 26) (note: if student needs more than one page have them continue on separate sheet of paper and staple to journal)
